They clearly set this up so that the guy on the left is made out to be a goober...and he is - no doubt about it. He's the kind of Pharisee-kin that repulses me. But the second guy is smarmy to me just as much.
My sins don't tend toward those of the first guy. The guy on the right, comes across oh so much more reasonable and virtuous...but I guarantee I (er...he) has his own set of repulsive traits that are perhaps not as easily seen in our culture. For example, I'm a disgusting attention-holic. Get me in the lime light and my ego becomes a monster. My casual attitude allows me to neglect responsibilities and turf off important things onto others around me. I'm overly impressed by my own sincerity...and it goes on and on...All I can say is Lord help me.
