Janitor jock proud to mop floors he once ruled

“Imagine being the king of campus and the next day cleaning up after everybody,” Headd says over the telephone.

Hard to fathom. For most. Then again, most aren’t Headd, who has spent the past 14 years as a janitor, taking home less than $30,000 a year while, according to his former supervisor, doing one heck of a job.

A model employee, were the exact words uttered by Kay Farrell, the university’s manager of housekeeping.

“Marty’s always inspiring people to hang in there, to keep going,” Farrell says.

He knows a little something about stick-to-it-ness.
