Is that what friends are for?

Blurbat:
One of the benefits of sharing a car with my teen daughter is that it lets me peer into a window of popular culture. Today's window, courtesy of KGON radio's Mark and Dave and color girl.

The crew was wondering why some women in particular have friends that they don't even like! Why would these women burden themselves so? The KGON crew let us know that they have no time for people they don't like...lifes too short.

They said they don't have time for "Eyores" either. "I just can't help and Eyore." Well until it was pointed out that one of the staff was an Eyore. They decided that Eyores are OK as long as they make you laugh.

So the message was that life's short and you need surround yourself with friends who you like and make you happy. Mewithoutyou sees the problem with defining friendship and love from the locus of the self:

"When they swear their love is real
They mean "I like the way you make me feel"

And so when the feelings change, the definitions change. Love is no longer love and friendship is no longer friendship. Is that really the way it should be?
