from Charity's Place:
Christian themes are brought into the screenplay but not overbearingly so. In a different plot line, there’s a large nativity scene that is the center of the towns holiday festivities, which is always displayed outside the church; the baby Jesus creates a great part of the mystery during the story. Parallels are seen between Jack’s adoption and another young girl, and themes of forgiveness among other things.
Uniquely written and told, this remains one of the more “serious” films for those viewers that become tired of the fluffy fare that is so often found airing on television this time of year. That’s not to say there still aren’t trite moments, but even so, The Christmas Child is a lovely and oftentimes touching surprise to unwrap.
