A doodle of stick figures by renowned artist LS Lowry which was given to a six-year old boy half a century ago has been unearthed.

The sketch on a piece of hotel headed paper was given by the artist to businessman John Waldie 'for being brave' when he hurt himself as a toddler.

But the little boy never knew of the artist's gift as his father, recognising it might be worth something, hid it from him until after he got married.
