Carrie’s main desire is to make a final trip to her rural hometown of Bountiful before she dies. Thinking such a journey unwise, Ludie and Jessie Mae always manage to foil the old lady’s efforts before she is able to get very far. But one morning she manages to elude them. Although there is no longer a bus to Bountiful, Carrie purchases a ticket to a town twelve miles away.
